Kids: Preserving travel memories in their own way

The 9-year old, filming cheese cutting in Paris.

We have four kids - they range in age from adult to 9-years old (yes, it was a life V2.0) kind of thing) and they build and preserve their experience of world travel in vastly different ways. Some of them take photos, some want to buy fridge magnet souvenirs, some want to buy authentic clothing, and others build movies. So far, none of them are writers like their dad.

And that gets to the point - kids are unique and the way they preserve their memories of travel is unique also, including not preserving them at all. Let them discover the way that works for them. Give them a sampling of options and try things out - see what works for them with low expectations. If the journal ends up crumpled at the bottom of the pack…oh well. If they want to take photos of every pigeon they see, let them.

Our youngest like to build movies and animations. He’s super prolific and fast at creating the images and actions he wants - it also give us a unique view into how he sees the world. Sometimes we forget that when you are small, you see the world through a lot of butts :).

What does Travel look like through the youngest members of your travel party? Our 9-year old son’s view of Norway, Denmark and Paris.
