Old Trail Town: Cody, Wyoming. Big hit with the kids.

We drove in to Cody Wyoming today after the horse ride - hoping to find things to do.

As we entered Cody we were greeted by The Smith Mansion. Reading between all the salacious interpretive sign lines  - I came to understand that its owner suffered from mental illness in a time where mental health care wasn’t in vogue.

Lack of health care became a bit of a theme as we ventured through Cody’s historic attractions.

We visited Old Trail Town, which was a collection of relocated historic cabins and a large collection of artifacts all set up in a town format.

It was pretty weird- in a good way.

The boys dodged in and out of the dark grim cabins and enjoyed the rabbits that seemed to be multiplying under the board walk. A two-headed calf became quit a topic of conversation.

Kaety and I wandered and read the plaques - just about every cabin had a hideous story of murder, injury, poor decision making, and mental illness inspired murders. I was delighted to find two instances of the word ‘gangrenous’, which doesn’t get much play in modern life. Living in the old west was rough duty.

There were no plaques to explain the antler stacking proclivities.
